Security Research Intern

Role Summary

Join the hardware development team to support security assurance for systems-on-a-chip (SoCs). The role works with experienced engineers across the hardware secure development lifecycle to review designs, assess threats, and develop proofs-of-concept.

This is a hands-on internship focused on applied research, hardware validation, and prototype development in a collaborative engineering environment.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include reviewing hardware and software designs for security, performing threat and vulnerability assessments, and building prototypes to validate findings.

  • Review and validate secure design and implementation of Intel hardware and software products.
  • Conduct threat modeling and vulnerability assessments for SoC components.
  • Research and develop proofs-of-concept and prototypes for new security ideas or exploits.
  • Use formal processes and engineering judgment to propose mitigations and improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on validation, debugging, and testing activities.

Requirements

  • Must-have: At least 6 months programming experience in Python.
  • Must-have: At least 6 months experience in computer architecture concepts.
  • Must-have: Intermediate to advanced English proficiency.
  • Must-have: Unrestricted, permanent right to work in Mexico (no visa sponsorship).
  • Must-have: Ability to present required Mexican personal identification numbers (NSS, RFC, CURP) if offered employment.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with ethical software hacking or security research.
  • Experience with Hardware Description Languages (e.g., Verilog).
  • Familiarity with source control and CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub).
  • Experience developing automated tools, tests, or exploits; hardware validation/debug experience is a plus.
  • Focused experience in Intel computer architecture (preferred).

Education Requirements

Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with at least one year remaining as an active student. The posting allows equivalent academic or practical experience in place of the degree requirement.
