Job Title
Satellite SoC Physical Design Engineer (VLSI)
Role Summary
Contribute to the physical implementation of advanced Satellite System-on-Chip (SoC) projects within a multinational engineering team based in the UK. The role focuses on translating RTL and architecture into manufacturable silicon while meeting timing, area and power targets.
Work closely with architecture, RTL and verification teams, using commercial EDA tool flows and scripting to deliver complex VLSI devices to tape-out.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Substantial prior hands-on experience in physical design and SoC implementation is expected.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Perform physical design tasks for Satellite SoC projects, including floorplanning, placement, routing and optimization.
- Drive timing closure activities, run static timing analysis and implement ECOs.
- Execute implementation and signoff flows using commercial EDA tools and debug tool outputs.
- Develop and maintain scripts to automate flows and accelerate debug (e.g. Python, Tcl).
- Collaborate with RTL, verification and architecture teams to ensure integration and meet design milestones.
- Support tape-out preparations, signoff criteria and handover to manufacturing teams.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Substantial hands-on physical design experience on SoC/VLSI projects.
- Proficiency with commercial EDA implementation and signoff tools.
- Experience scripting to automate flows and debug implementation issues.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in satellite or aerospace SoC development.
- Familiarity with power optimization, DFT, or advanced process nodes.
Education Requirements
BSc in a relevant field as stated in the posting (examples: Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science).
