Job Title
RF Engineering Technician - ATD (Device Characterization)
Role Summary
Perform hands-on RF device characterization and support engineering activities in the Advanced Technology Development Device Characterization Lab. Work primarily in a wafer-probing lab environment to collect RF/DC/pulse data, support measurement development, and maintain test equipment and lab compliance.
Position is onsite in the Dallas lab and supports first-shift laboratory operations.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typically requires about 5+ years of relevant characterization experience as indicated by the posting.
Responsibilities
Execute and support experimental testing and lab operations for RF device characterization.
- Perform on-wafer RF, DC and pulse characterization of components during process development (s-parameters, SPICE correlation).
- Support load-pull and RF noise-figure measurements on-wafer (up to ~70 GHz) and develop new measurement techniques.
- Characterize analog, RF, and high-speed digital components; perform ESD (TLP) characterization and wafer testing under mechanical stress.
- Work from test-chip layouts, diagrams and written plans to execute tests, checkout equipment and troubleshoot failures.
- Conduct detailed experimental tests to collect technology data and assist in research and modeling efforts.
- Perform operational tests, fault isolation, and routine equipment calibration and readiness tasks.
- Maintain lab safety and compliance for characterization activities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; followed by preferred skills.
-
Must-have: Minimum 5 years of experience characterizing RF components (s-parameters) and using bench or automated test equipment for device characterization.
-
Must-have: Strong troubleshooting skills on electrical/mechanical test systems and experience performing operational test and fault isolation.
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Load-pull and RF noise-parameter measurement experience.
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Wafer-level characterization experience and familiarity with on-wafer probing up to microwave/mm-wave frequencies.
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Soldering skills and ability to work with electro-mechanical systems; experience with TLP/ESD testing is a plus.
-
Preferred / Nice-to-have: Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and clear verbal/written communication; ability to work in teams and manage multiple tasks.
Education Requirements
High school diploma or GED required (listed as minimum in the posting).
