RF Applications Engineer

Role Summary

The RF Applications Engineer will support the development, validation, documentation, and customer support for RF product ICs including PLLs, VCOs, integrated PLL/VCOs, JESD204 and network clock ICs, frequency multipliers, DDS, and dividers. The role sits on the product/applications team based in Limerick and interfaces with customers, field application engineers, and internal product teams.

This is a hands-on engineering role involving hardware measurements, evaluation board work, technical documentation, and preparation of training and application materials. Travel to customer sites is required (~10% of the time).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include product support, measurement, documentation, and training.

  • Act as an RF product expert and interface with customers and field application engineers to resolve design challenges.
  • Support customer design-in activities and troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Design and verify hardware blocks and perform laboratory measurements on RF ICs and evaluation boards.
  • Develop datasheets, user guides, evaluation boards, application notes, and training material.
  • Create measurement scripts and automation for data capture (Python-based preferred).
  • Collaborate with product lines to define complete signal-chain solutions and provide input for new product definitions.
  • Provide timely technical responses to customer and FAE inquiries; occasional travel to customer sites (~10%).

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required or preferred.

  • Must-have: Hands-on experience with silicon evaluation and RF lab measurements.
  • Must-have: Experience using test instruments such as spectrum analyzers, phase-noise analyzers, and vector network analyzers.
  • Must-have: Programming experience in Python, C, C++, or C# for measurement automation and data capture.
  • Must-have: Strong technical writing and presentation skills; effective verbal communication and teamwork.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of programmable logic (FPGA) and SoC development.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with JESD204 interfaces and frequency synthesis architectures.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering (as specified in the posting).
