Job Title
R&D Engineer — Test Engineering (Wafer Test, Final Module Test & Characterization)
Role Summary
The engineer will develop and deliver test solutions for optoelectronic transceivers, sensors and mixed-signal ASICs across wafer, die and final module levels. The role covers test-method definition, hardware/software development for evaluation, characterization and production testing, and handover to production or external test houses.
The position works closely with IC designers, product engineers and project leads to characterize devices, analyze results and optimize cost-efficient production test packages.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting specifies a minimum of 3+ years of experience in semiconductor testing.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include development, validation and transfer of device test solutions and characterization:
- Define test requirements and methods for optoelectronic transceivers, sensors and in-house mixed-signal ASICs.
- Develop, bring up and debug test hardware and software for evaluation, bench characterization and production testing.
- Design test application PCBs, test sockets and probe cards; work with wafer probers and probe-card technologies.
- Perform full device characterization over corner conditions and produce analysis and reports.
- Optimize production test packages (wafer-level and final-module) based on characterization and test data to reduce cost.
- Handover test solutions to production sites or external test houses and support integration across functions and locations.
- Collaborate closely with IC designers, product designers and project managers throughout project phases.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical skills, experience and work conditions.
-
Must-have: Minimum 3+ years of semiconductor testing experience; strong practical knowledge of testing and measurement technology and data analysis.
-
Must-have: Experience with discrete test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, SMUs, spectrum analyzers) and bench-level characterization tools.
-
Must-have: Practical experience in developing test hardware and software; ability to debug test setups and analyze test results.
-
Must-have: Proficiency in structured programming for test automation (examples: Python, C++, LabVIEW, TestStand, C#, MATLAB or similar).
-
Must-have: English proficiency (spoken and written); willingness to learn German; travel up to 20% as required.
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with ATE systems (Teradyne, Advantest, LTX or similar) and ATE programming languages.
-
Nice-to-have: Good knowledge of wafer probers and probe-card technologies; experience designing test application PCBs and sockets.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience using AI tools to support testing and analysis tasks; experience interfacing with customers and suppliers.
-
Nice-to-have: Broad interest in interdisciplinary work across electronics, optics, fiber technology and communications systems; team and project experience.
Education Requirements
Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics or an equivalent discipline with focus on semiconductor devices and/or electrical/optical testing and measurement technology (as stated in the posting).
