Quantum Photonics Modality Integration — Principal Member of Technical Staff

Role Summary

Senior technical leader in GF Labs and Quantum Technology Solutions responsible for defining and executing the technology roadmap for GF's quantum photonics modality. Leads integration of quantum emitters, photonic integrated circuits, advanced materials, heterogeneous integration, and manufacturable processes toward scalable photonic quantum computing platforms.

Coordinates cross-functional teams and external partners to mature technologies for large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum systems and to enable customer and ecosystem engagements.

Experience Level

Senior — requires 15+ years of relevant experience in photonic device development, quantum photonics, semiconductor R&D, or advanced technology integration.

Responsibilities

The core responsibilities include technical leadership, integration strategy, and manufacturing readiness for the quantum photonics modality:

  • Define and lead photonic quantum hardware roadmap and technology maturation plans.
  • Specify manufacturable process flows for photonic integrated circuits, single-photon sources, detectors, modulators, resonators, and optical interconnects.
  • Drive integration of advanced materials (SiN, AlN, Al2O3, lithium niobate, III-V, quantum dots, color centers) and heterogeneous photonic platforms.
  • Develop scalable approaches for emitter integration, photon routing, entanglement distribution, and photonic networking architectures.
  • Lead cross-functional teams across device engineering, process integration, metrology, design enablement, packaging, characterization, and manufacturing.
  • Interface with strategic customers, university partners, national laboratories, and ecosystem collaborators.
  • Establish technology metrics, yield-learning methods, reliability plans, and manufacturing readiness criteria.
  • Mentor technical staff and provide thought leadership via publications, patents, conferences, and customer presentations.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • 15+ years of experience in photonic device development, quantum photonics, semiconductor R&D, or advanced technology integration.
  • Demonstrated leadership in integrated photonics, nanophotonics, quantum emitters, quantum optics, or quantum hardware development.
  • Experience developing photonic integrated circuits on silicon photonics, silicon nitride, III-V, lithium niobate, or related platforms.
  • Proficiency with device simulation tools such as Lumerical, COMSOL, HFSS, MEEP, or equivalents.
  • Proven record of technical innovation including publications, patents, technology transfers, or external leadership.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with photonic quantum computing architectures.
  • Experience with single-photon sources, quantum emitters, color centers, quantum dots, or cryogenic optical systems.
  • Wafer-scale photonic integration and foundry manufacturing experience.
  • Previous leadership of large R&D programs or technical organizations.
  • Experience collaborating with national laboratories, photonic start-ups, or quantum ecosystem leaders.

Education Requirements

PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics, Photonics, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
