Job Title

PVD Hardware Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for the integration, testing and optimisation of Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) semiconductor hardware within the SPTS PVD Hardware team at KLA. Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to build, commission and improve PVD platforms from prototype through to customer-ready production systems.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain, develop and improve PVD semiconductor process equipment hardware.
  • Support build, installation and commissioning of prototype and existing PVD systems.
  • Plan and execute hardware testing, validation and performance characterisation.
  • Troubleshoot complex equipment issues and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Work with process engineers to optimise hardware for reliability and process capability.
  • Produce and maintain engineering documentation: specifications, drawings, test plans and reports.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams on improvements and support technology development programmes.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience, plus desirable skills:

  • Must-have: Experience designing, building, testing or supporting semiconductor process equipment or other complex industrial systems.
  • Must-have: Strong hands-on engineering and troubleshooting skills; structured analytical problem solving.
  • Must-have: Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and produce engineering documentation and test plans.
  • Must-have: Experience with commissioning, validation and performance characterisation of hardware.
  • Travel flexibility: up to 40% domestic and international travel.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with semiconductor capital equipment platforms.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of high-vacuum systems and RF power delivery.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with CAD tools and engineering drawings.

Education Requirements

HNC in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent level qualification (explicitly stated as acceptable).
