Production Systems Engineer, Fleet AI Systems
Meta PlatformsJob Title
Production Systems Engineer, Fleet AI Systems
Role Summary
Join Meta's Release to Production (RTP) team responsible for the end-to-end hardware lifecycle of Meta servers. The role focuses on system validation, hardware/firmware/software debugging, and enabling new compute and storage platforms for production data centers.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting requests 2+ years of relevant work experience with preferred candidates having more extensive experience in specialized domains.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include validating and supporting server platforms across compute, storage, and networking, and driving issue resolution with internal teams and vendors.
- Support end-to-end system validation and deployment for compute and storage platforms (CPUs, flash, DPUs/SmartNICs) in data center environments.
- Create experiments and tools to diagnose and root-cause hardware, firmware, and software failures using telemetry, logs, and hands-on debugging.
- Design and implement system-level test plans: functional, stress, and performance tests.
- Coordinate with component vendors and system manufacturers to resolve hardware and firmware issues identified in production.
- Develop hardware fault management strategies and improve RAS (reliability, availability, serviceability) reporting and handling.
- Analyze production failure data, identify systemic trends, and drive corrective actions.
- Create and maintain dashboards and visualizations to surface hardware health signals and track remediation.
- Drive platform enablement, tooling specification, integration, and customer workload testing to detect hardware/firmware/software health issues.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience to perform the role; nice-to-have items are listed separately.
Must-have
- 2+ years of work experience in domains such as ASIC development, compute, AI/ML hardware/software, storage, memory, networking, or server interconnect technologies.
- Knowledge of system architecture and components for servers, PCs, or laptops.
- Development or debug experience in hardware fault management, error reporting, or error handling on hardware products.
- Experience programming or scripting in Python, C/C++ (or similar) within a Linux environment for system management, automation, CI/CD, or version control.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills across hardware/firmware/software boundaries.
- Experience communicating technical findings and working with cross-functional teams (hardware design, firmware, vendor engineering) in a matrix organization.
Nice-to-have
- Hands-on experience managing and debugging Linux servers and system-level troubleshooting across multiple components.
- Experience authoring test plans for hardware systems and familiarity with post-silicon bringup.
- Familiarity with SoC debugging tools (JTAG, GDB, DSTREAM, Trace32) and common bus protocols (I2C, SPI, USB, LPDDR, PCIe).
- Experience supporting ASIC development (silicon bringup, characterization), kernel/firmware development, or accelerated compute/HPC platforms.
- Experience with x86 or ARM CPUs and subsystems, SSDs, DPUs/SmartNICs.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field is stated as the expected qualification, or equivalent practical experience. The posting notes the degree must be completed prior to joining.
