Product Definition Engineer (Systems/Applications)

Role Summary

The Product Definition Engineer translates customer and system requirements into product specifications for power management ICs (dc-dc converters, hot-swap controllers) targeting automotive, industrial, and server markets. The role interfaces with R&D, marketing, and customers and drives the product roadmap and NPI pipeline.

Work is within a cross-functional product team at a global semiconductor company focused on power management solutions.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role expects approximately 5+ years of experience in applications, systems, or product definition engineering.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include defining product requirements, interfacing with customers, and bringing products to market.

• Analyze market trends and customer requirements across automotive, industrial, and server applications
• Define product requirements, design targets, and datasheet parameters
• Serve as technical interface between customers and internal teams
• Perform competitive benchmarking on performance, cost, and features
• Own product roadmap and new product introduction (NPI) pipeline
• Create business cases and perform ROI analysis for product initiatives
• Collaborate with cross-functional development teams to launch products
• Train marketing and field applications teams to drive portfolio revenue

Requirements

Minimum technical skills and professional capabilities required.

• 5+ years experience in applications, systems, or product definition engineering
• Hands-on experience with power ICs: dc-dc buck converters/controllers and hot-swap controllers
• Knowledge of automotive, industrial, or server power systems and their requirements
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to translate system requirements into IC specifications and datasheet parameters
• Strong written and verbal communication and teamwork skills

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
