Product Applications Engineer — High-Speed Interconnect Products

Role Summary

Provide technical pre-sales and post-sales support for Broadcom high-speed PHY products (100/400/800/1600/3200 Gbps). Work with Tier 1 customers and internal teams to secure design wins, enable product bring-up, and ensure timely successful product launches.

Primary activities include customer-facing troubleshooting, board bring-up, schematic/layout reviews, documentation, and training of customers and field applications engineers.

Experience Level

Senior — minimum of 8 to 15+ years of relevant experience in applications, hardware, or systems engineering supporting high-speed interconnects.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day responsibilities include customer support, technical analysis, and product enablement:

• Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support to Tier 1 customers via email, phone, and on-site visits.
• Answer architecture and low-level hardware/software questions related to Broadcom PHY and SerDes devices.
• Debug complex hardware, firmware, and system issues; perform board bring-up and root-cause analysis.
• Perform schematic and PCB layout reviews to validate designs.
• Analyze customer architectures and requirements to map Broadcom solutions and secure design wins.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and product definition materials.
• Train customers and Field Applications Engineers on product use and integration.
• Collaborate with internal hardware, software, architecture, operations, sales, and marketing teams.
• Travel to customer sites as required for integration and debugging.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in applications, hardware, or systems engineering supporting high-speed PHY/SerDes products.
• Demonstrated customer-facing experience and strong oral and written communication skills.
• Experience with hardware/firmware/software bring-up, debugging complex problems, and register-level device programming.
• Practical programming/scripting skills in C or C++ (ability to create/modify simple tools or scripts).
• Ability to review PCB schematics and layout for high-speed designs.
• Project/time management and ability to work on multiple concurrent tasks.
• Preferred instrumentation and system experience: traffic generators, high-speed scopes, jitter analyzers, spectrum/network analyzers, and OTN testers.
• Preferred domain knowledge: Ethernet systems/standards, optical systems (100/200/400 Gbps), OTN, PAM4, signal integrity.
• Teamwork, presentation skills, and strong problem-solving attitude.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or post-graduate degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (BS/MS/post-graduate). The posting specifies academic degrees rather than equivalence language.
