Job Title

Principal Wet Process Engineer, Advanced Packaging

Role Summary

Responsible for developing and optimizing wet chemistry and assembly processes for advanced packaging products. The role works within Advanced Packaging Technology Development (APTD) collaborating with R&D, materials suppliers, and manufacturing to improve yield, reliability, productivity, and cost.

Tasks include failure analysis, process qualification, transfer to manufacturing, and leading cross-functional yield and cost-reduction projects.

Experience Level

Senior level. The posting specifies 12+ years of direct process development experience focused on advanced packaging (DRAM, NAND, or other memory products).

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include process development, problem resolution, and transfer to manufacturing:

  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve assembly and wet-process related problems using root-cause methods (FMEA, 8D, SPC/FDC).
  • Plan and execute process, equipment, and material evaluations; implement optimizations at process steps.
  • Validate and scale innovative processes, tools, and materials for new product introductions and site-to-site portability.
  • Develop, optimize, and characterize wet chemistry processes to meet product requirements for advanced packaging.
  • Support statistical process control (SPC/FDC/RMS/APC) and model-based analytics for process monitoring and improvement.
  • Lead yield-improvement and cost-reduction initiatives and manage new process baseline qualifications.
  • Manage and audit material suppliers to meet quality, cost, and risk objectives; support internal and external audits.
  • Conceive and plan projects involving new concepts, equipment automation, and process improvements.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.

  • Must-have: 12+ years of direct process development experience with an advanced packaging focus on DRAM, NAND, or other memory products.
  • Must-have: Strong data collection, organization, and analysis skills, including experience with Python and statistical software.
  • Must-have: Experience with material properties and characterization techniques relevant to wet chemistry and packaging.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in statistics and model-based problem solving; experienced in designing valid tests and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Must-have: Experience applying SPC/FDC and other process-control methodologies.
  • Nice-to-have: Substantial hands-on wet chemistry development experience in a cleanroom environment.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience leveraging AI and automation for data analysis and process improvement.

Education Requirements

MS in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field is listed as a minimum qualification. A PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry is preferred (preferred qualification references ~10+ years in advanced packaging for PhD holders). Fields noted: Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related technical fields.
