Job Title
Principal Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Senior verification engineer for Microchip's FPGA Business Unit in Dublin responsible for planning and executing functional verification of next-generation, secure, low-power FPGA and SoC products. The role focuses on developing reusable UVM testbenches, integrating emulation/prototyping flows, and driving methodology and automation improvements.
Works cross-functionally with architecture, design, emulation, and prototyping teams to achieve first-silicon success and mentor junior engineers.
Experience Level
Senior level. The posting specifies 8+ years of experience in functional verification of complex SoC designs.
Responsibilities
Own verification strategy and implementation for complex subsystems and SoC blocks; collaborate with emulation/prototyping and design teams to ensure silicon readiness.
- Plan and execute functional verification using constrained-random, formal, and C-based methodologies.
- Design, develop and maintain highly reusable UVM testbenches and verification environments.
- Perform RTL, power-aware and gate-level verification; integrate emulation and FPGA-acceleration flows.
- Collaborate with architecture and design teams for specification validation and first-silicon bring-up.
- Work with emulation and hardware prototyping teams to define unified verification flows and support post-silicon debug.
- Drive methodology/tool automation and introduce AI/ML-enabled verification optimizations.
- Mentor and guide junior verification engineers.
Requirements
Required skills and experience. Preferred items listed separately.
- 8+ years in functional verification of complex SoC designs.
- Expertise in SystemVerilog, UVM, and formal verification methodologies.
- Proven experience in verification methodology development and tool automation.
- Familiarity with AI/ML-driven EDA tools and scripting for flow integration.
- Good understanding of SoC architectures (ARM and/or RISC-V).
- Expertise in at least two of: CPU subsystems; PCIe Gen3/Gen4/Gen5; DDR4/DDR5/LPDDR4X; MIPI DSI/CSI; Ethernet MAC; USB; security/cryptography IPs.
- Exposure to emulation, hardware prototyping, post-silicon debug, and FPGA-based acceleration platforms.
- Proficiency in Python, TCL/TK, and C/C++ for automation and validation.
- Familiarity with Siemens/Cadence/Synopsys verification suites and revision control systems (Git, Perforce, svn).
- Strong debugging skills and experience collaborating with global, cross-functional teams; excellent communication.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (or equivalent practical experience); the posting pairs the degree expectation with 8+ years of relevant verification experience.
