Job Title
Principal Senior Engineer - FPGA Design
Role Summary
Senior FPGA design engineer on the Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit. The role focuses on designing and implementing advanced FPGA and digital systems for defense-oriented R&D, proof-of-concept, and production programs.
This is an on-site role at the primary Westminster, CO location; responsibilities include FPGA development, digital IP integration, and support for tactical RF and high-reliability electronic systems.
Experience Level
Senior β requires roughly 8+ years of relevant experience (see Requirements for details).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include system- and board-level FPGA and digital design, verification, and integration for defense applications.
- Design FPGA architectures and digital IP for tactical RF and high-reliability systems, including SoC architectures with soft-core processors, digital filters, image processing, and communication interfaces.
- Develop and integrate reusable IP and circuits across projects.
- Create and execute test plans; design and implement chip- and board-level test fixtures.
- Work on R&D, proof-of-concept, and production programs in a fast-paced team environment.
- Translate system requirements into subsystem/board requirements and perform requirements flow-down.
- Maintain a regular, predictable on-site work schedule and collaborate across teams.
- Communicate technical results clearly; prepare presentations and technical documentation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items are listed separately.
- Minimum of 8 years of related engineering experience.
- Digital system partitioning and advanced FPGA implementation experience.
- Strong electronic circuit design and electronic systems background.
- Expertise in VHDL, Verilog, and SystemVerilog.
- Experience with FPGA toolchains such as AMD Vivado/Vitis and Siemens Modelsim/Questasim.
- Ability to perform requirements flow-down across system, subsystem, box, and board levels.
- Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Willingness and eligibility to be submitted for security clearance when required by programs.
Nice-to-have / preferred:
- Experience with OVM/UVM verification methodologies.
- Experience with high-speed interfaces (PCI, Ethernet) and embedded processor systems.
- Familiarity with signal processing algorithms, DSP techniques, and cybersecurity topics.
- Space or military experience.
Education Requirements
Requires a BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field. Master's or Ph.D. may substitute for two years of experience; related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degrees should be from an accredited institution.
