Principal Project/Program Design

Role Summary

Lead and own chip development projects in the Configurable Mixed Signal Division (CMSD), managing cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams through new product introduction from kickoff to customer release.

Drive project plans, schedules, budgets, risk mitigation, and execution discipline to deliver mixed-signal semiconductor products aligned with Renesas global methodologies.

Experience Level

Senior. Typical background: experienced semiconductor professional with roughly 5+ years in the industry and multiple years of hands-on technical program/project management.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Own assigned chip development projects end-to-end and act as primary internal point of contact.
  • Develop and execute project plans, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Lead cross-functional teams and coordinate geographically distributed stakeholders.
  • Track metrics/KPIs (schedule, risks, scope, budget, cost, manufacturability) with PMO leads.
  • Support annual planning, forecasting, and program/portfolio spending alignment.
  • Identify and remove execution roadblocks; escalate early and form focused teams when needed.
  • Prepare and present project status at management decision points and cross-functional reviews.

Requirements

Must-have technical and program management skills:

  • Practical knowledge of semiconductor product lifecycle: design, fabrication, packaging, test, characterization, qualification, and mass production.
  • Proven track record delivering projects on schedule, on budget, and to quality targets.
  • Hands-on technical program/project management experience leading development of mixed-signal analog products and NPI teams.
  • Experience with risk tracking, contingency planning, and timely escalation to avoid execution issues.
  • Proficiency with project tools such as MS Project, Jira, SharePoint, FMEA, 8D/Root Cause Analysis, and related collaboration tools.
  • Ability to collaborate with product, sales, marketing, and functional leadership to align priorities and support bids/RFIs.
  • Exposure to automotive development processes and product lines is a plus.

Education Requirements

BS in Electrical, Electronics, or another engineering discipline relevant to semiconductors is required; Master’s degree preferred. PMP certification is a plus.
