Principal Product Engineer – Silicon Qualification
Role Summary
The Principal Product Engineer – Silicon Qualification leads and executes silicon bring-up, qualification, and validation activities for ASIC/SoC products. The role works within the product engineering or system validation team and interfaces with design, verification, manufacturing, and reliability groups to ensure silicon meets product requirements.
Primary mission: plan and run qualification tests, diagnose and debug silicon issues, define corrective actions, and enable product readiness for customers and production.

Senior level. (Principal / senior individual contributor with extensive experience in silicon bring-up, qualification, and cross-functional leadership.)
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include:
- Lead silicon bring-up and qualification efforts for chips, subsystems, or reference platforms.
- Develop test plans, metrics, and qualification criteria to validate functionality, performance, and reliability.
- Execute lab validation, including hardware setup, firmware loading, and automated test execution.
- Perform failure analysis and root-cause debugging; drive fixes with design and manufacturing teams.
- Design and maintain test infrastructure, scripts, and automation to improve throughput and repeatability.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities with design, verification, software, supply chain, and customers.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and contribute to process and tool improvements.
Requirements
Core requirements and desired skills (must-have vs nice-to-have indicated):

Must-have: Significant hands-on experience with silicon bring-up, qualification, or lab validation for ASICs/SoCs.

Must-have: Practical skills in hardware debug and failure analysis using lab instruments (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, protocol analyzers, JTAG, etc.).

Must-have: Proficiency with scripting and test automation (e.g., Python, TCL, shell scripting) and familiarity with automated test frameworks.

Must-have: Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, firmware, and software interfaces; ability to drive cross-functional resolution.

Nice-to-have: Experience with board bring-up, bringout issues, characterization, and reliability/DFx test methodologies.

Nice-to-have: Prior experience leading product qualification efforts or coordinating with manufacturing/test partners.
