Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Develop and maintain high‑fidelity simulation models and tools to evaluate NICs, switches, and system‑level network architectures. Drive performance, scalability, and fault‑tolerance analysis to inform ASIC and system design decisions.

Work in cross‑functional teams with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to validate architectural tradeoffs and produce actionable results for hardware and system design.

Experience Level

Senior — typically requires 10+ years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on building simulation infrastructure, running realistic network scenarios, and delivering analysis that informs design choices.

  • Design and implement simulation models and motifs for NICs, switches, and future system architectures.
  • Create tools for performance analysis, visualization, and automated experiments.
  • Run large‑scale scenarios to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance.
  • Analyze architectural tradeoffs and recommend optimizations.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reproducible, maintainable simulations.
  • Collaborate closely with network architects, ASIC teams, and software engineers to validate designs and findings.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • 10+ years of professional experience in network or system simulation and architecture analysis.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and system‑level design.
  • Proficiency implementing simulation models in C++ and performing analysis in Python.
  • Experience evaluating performance, scalability, and fault‑tolerance for hardware and system designs.
  • Ability to communicate results and work effectively in cross‑functional teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field — or equivalent practical experience.
