Job Title

Principal Network Simulation Engineer - VLSI

Role Summary

Design and implement simulation models and motifs to evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of network and system architectures (NICs, switches, and future systems). Work on end-to-end simulation tooling and analysis to inform architecture and ASIC design decisions. This is a senior technical engineering role collaborating across architecture, ASIC, and software teams.

Experience Level

Senior. Typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience in network/system simulation, architecture analysis, or related engineering fields.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include building and using simulators and tools to assess networked system designs:

  • Develop simulation models for NICs, switches, and system architectures.
  • Design and implement simulation motifs to drive realistic network scenarios and workloads.
  • Create tools for performance analysis, data collection, and visualization.
  • Evaluate performance, scalability, and fault tolerance of proposed architectures and trade-offs.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to ensure reliable, maintainable, and efficient simulation frameworks.
  • Collaborate closely with network architects, ASIC designers, and software engineers to translate requirements into measurable metrics and experiments.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • 10+ years of industry experience in network simulation, system architecture evaluation, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and system-level design (NICs, switches, interconnects).
  • Proficiency in simulation/model implementation in C++ and scripting/analysis in Python.
  • Experience analyzing architectural trade-offs, optimization strategies, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Experience building or using tools for performance measurement, data analysis, and visualization.
  • Demonstrated software engineering skills: testing, version control, CI, and documentation for simulation codebases.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams with architects, ASIC engineers, and software developers.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field — or equivalent practical experience.
