Job Title

Principal Mixed Signal Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead architect and designer for automotive SerDes/GMSL mixed-signal circuits within the Automotive GMSL team. Responsible for system-level architecture, transistor-level circuit design, verification, lab evaluation, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver production automotive video-transport products.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typically requires 10+ years of relevant mixed-signal and high-speed SerDes design experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include hands-on circuit design, verification, lab debug, and technical leadership across the product lifecycle.

  • Create and specify individual circuit blocks and perform system-level analysis to define optimal implementations.
  • Design and verify high-performance SerDes and auxiliary circuits (Rx equalizers, DFEs, CDR, Tx drivers, clock generation, bias circuits).
  • Own analog and mixed-signal circuit implementations through design, layout supervision, and post-layout simulation.
  • Lead lab evaluation, characterization, and hardware debug using signal generators, oscilloscopes, BERTs, logic analyzers, and DAQ systems.
  • Prepare documentation, conduct design reviews, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and production test methods.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring across multiple engineering disciplines on complex products and projects.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.

  • Extensive expertise in high-speed SerDes circuits, including Rx equalizers, DFEs, CDR, Tx drivers, clock generation (VCO, PLL, dividers), and bias circuitry.
  • Advanced transistor-level design skills and solid understanding of CMOS device physics, small-signal and large-signal device models.
  • Strong circuit analysis skills including awareness of model limitations, high-frequency effects, and temperature behavior.
  • Extensive experience with Cadence design, simulation, layout, and verification tools for analog and mixed-signal designs.
  • Hands-on lab experience characterizing and debugging mixed-signal SoCs and high-speed links; familiarity with package and layout parasitics and extracted simulations.
  • Proven record of designing, leading, and bringing products to market; effective written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership across complex products and projects.
  • Preferred: familiarity with video protocols (DisplayPort, CSI/DSI, HDMI, PCIe), analog/digital behavioral modeling, DSP/Matlab, and automated digital design tools (Verilog, synthesis, P&R, STA). Experience leading teams or projects is a plus.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) or equivalent is preferred; equivalent practical experience is acceptable. Relevant fields include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical disciplines. The role is typically filled by candidates with 10+ years of relevant experience.
