Job Title
Principal Engineer, SoC Design Verification
Role Summary
Lead functional logic verification for integrated SoC designs within Intel's Data Center Group. Serve as a domain expert who defines verification strategy, drives technical direction across teams, and ensures designs meet specification for functionality, performance, and security.
Work closely with architects, RTL developers, postsilicon and physical-design teams to improve verification methodology and mentor technical leaders.
Experience Level
Senior. The posting specifies experience guidance tied to degree level: 12+ years with a Bachelor's, 8+ years with a Master's, or 6+ years with a PhD.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on planning, executing, debugging, and improving SoC verification at block, subsystem, and SoC levels.
- Define and develop scalable, reusable verification plans, testbenches, and environments for blocks, subsystems, and full SoCs.
- Execute verification plans and use emulation and system simulation to validate functionality, analyze power/performance, and find bugs.
- Debug presilicon failures, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with SoC architects, microarchitecture teams, RTL developers, postsilicon, and physical design groups to ensure correct integration of complex features.
- Document test plans and lead technical reviews with design and architecture teams.
- Integrate security verification activities into regression and debug workflows.
- Maintain and evolve functional verification infrastructure and methodology; propagate lessons learned to future products.
- Mentor and develop other technical leaders and promote community and process improvements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required for successful performance in this role; preferred items follow.
- Extensive experience in SoC functional logic verification (block, subsystem, and SoC level).
- Proven ability to develop verification plans, testbenches, and verification environments.
- Proficiency with emulation and system simulation models for SoC validation.
- Strong presilicon debug and root-cause analysis skills.
- Deep understanding of system architecture and SoC microarchitecture.
- Advanced knowledge of SoC test environments and VC (verification components) development tools.
- Experience incorporating security-related verification into verification flows and regression suites.
- Ability to maintain and improve verification infrastructure and methodology based on postsilicon learnings.
- Effective collaboration, documentation, and technical review leadership skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Proven track record as a technical leader, including mentoring and developing technical talent.
- Strong communication and cross-team influence skills.
Education Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. The posting also references Master's and PhD levels for alternate experience equivalency: 12+ years experience with a Bachelor's, 8+ years with a Master's, or 6+ years with a PhD. No certifications were specified.
