Job Title

Principal Engineer, Design Verification

Role Summary

Lead verification strategy and execution for Analog Devices' Power Controller BU, providing technical direction across multiple projects and mentoring a small verification team. The role is based at ADI's Durham, NC facility with responsibilities across the product portfolio.

Expected to drive methodology adoption, verification infrastructure, and cross-team collaboration; position requires occasional travel (~10%) and supports a flexible work policy with remote work days.

Responsibilities

Accountable for verification strategy, execution, and team leadership across multiple projects.

  • Define and implement DV strategy aligned with product roadmaps.
  • Create and manage comprehensive verification plans and quality gates.
  • Architect scalable, reusable verification infrastructure and testbench components (UVM, formal, mixed-signal).
  • Drive adoption of advanced methodologies: UVM, formal, portable stimulus (PSS), AI/ML-assisted techniques.
  • Establish verification metrics, KPIs, and coverage-closure processes.
  • Lead, mentor, and review work of verification engineers; participate in recruiting and onboarding.
  • Collaborate with analog/digital design, silicon validation, and product teams for mixed-signal integration.
  • Evaluate and drive adoption of EDA tools, verification IP, emulation, and FPGA prototyping.
  • Represent verification in design and project reviews and prepare executive-level technical updates.

Requirements

Essential qualifications and skills required for immediate effectiveness; preferred skills listed separately.

Must-have:

  • 10+ years of hands-on SystemVerilog/UVM-based verification experience.
  • 3+ years of technical leadership (mentoring, leading verification on complex projects, or managing small teams).
  • Experience architecting verification environments for complex mixed-signal SoCs or power-management ICs.
  • Expertise with verification automation and infrastructure tools (Python, TCL, Perl, Shell) and EDA flows.
  • Experience with formal verification tools and methodologies (e.g., JasperGold, VC Formal).
  • Strong understanding of coverage-driven verification and closure strategies.
  • Excellent technical communication skills and ability to present to diverse audiences, including executives.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with portable stimulus (PSS), graph-based verification, or AI/ML for verification.
  • Deep analog/mixed-signal verification knowledge (SV-RNM modeling) and power-management IC verification.
  • Familiarity with voltage-interface protocols (PMBUS, AVS, SVID, SVI3, I2C, SPI).
  • Emulation/FPGA prototyping experience and RTL design-for-verification background.
  • Experience with CI/CV pipelines, cloud-based verification, and distributed regression management.
  • Proficiency with multiple verification platforms (Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor/Siemens) and version control (Git, Perforce).
  • Languages: Verilog, C/C++, SystemC.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
