Principal Applications Engineer - Physical Verification
Role Summary
Provide expert technical leadership for Physical Verification tool evaluations and customer deployments. Work on-site with semiconductor customers to develop, debug, and productionize rule decks, runsets, and automated PV workflows for advanced-node tapeouts.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 10+ years of hands-on industry experience in Physical Verification.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include customer-facing evaluations, rule deck development, debugging, automation, and collaboration with product teams.
- Lead IC Validator evaluations and competitive benchmarks from initial setup through production signoff.
- Develop, customize, and debug PV rule decks and runsets (DRC, LVS, FILL, PERC) for advanced process nodes.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues spanning tool behavior, runset logic, design methodology, and foundry rule interpretation.
- Lead technical demonstrations, training, and hands-on customer deployments.
- Design and deploy AI/ML-assisted workflows for intelligent debug, violation classification, and automation.
- Collaborate with R&D, product engineering, and sales to translate customer feedback into product improvements.
- Script and automate PV flows using Python, TCL, Perl, and shell to improve customer productivity and adoption.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in Physical Verification covering DRC, LVS, FILL, and PERC.
- Deep experience with Physical Verification tools such as IC Validator, Calibre, Assura, or equivalent EDA solutions.
- Strong scripting and automation skills in Python, TCL, Perl, or shell.
- Proven ability to develop, qualify, and debug PV rule decks and runsets for complex designs.
- Familiarity with physical design flows (Fusion Compiler or Innovus) and custom layout environments (Custom Compiler or Virtuoso).
- Experience driving customer evaluations, competitive benchmarks, and production deployment (preferred).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, VLSI, or a related technical field.
