Job Title
Principal Application Engineer - Timing Signoff
Role Summary
Lead customer-facing timing signoff engagements for Synopsys signoff tools, supporting tapeouts and deploying signoff methodology and features in production design environments. You will work with product engineering, accounts, and customer design teams to diagnose signoff failures, enable production workflows, and influence tool roadmap.
Base salary range (U.S.): $160,000β$240,000; position may also be eligible for annual bonus, equity, and other discretionary compensation.
Experience Level
Senior β typically requires 10+ years of hands-on experience with timing analysis and signoff tools in customer-facing or product development roles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities center on customer tapeout support, signoff feature deployment, and technical enablement:
- Support customer tapeouts: diagnose timing, power, and signoff issues under schedule pressure using PrimeTime and related signoff tools.
- Deploy and integrate new signoff features with customers, manage beta adoption and methodology integration.
- Translate customer requirements and failure modes into actionable enhancement requests for product teams with supporting data and use cases.
- Create and deliver technical training, demos, and methodology documentation for customers and internal teams.
- Replicate, debug, and escalate product issues; coordinate resolution across R&D, engineering, and account teams.
- Mentor applications engineers and customer design teams on timing signoff best practices and flow optimization.
- Align technical enablement with account strategy to ensure timely, appropriate support during design cycles.
Requirements
Key must-have and preferred qualifications for success in this role.
Must-have:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience with timing analysis and signoff flows in customer-facing or product roles.
- Deep, practical knowledge of PrimeTime and experience with at least two of: PrimeShield, PrimeClosure, PrimePower.
- Proven ability to debug complex signoff issues under tapeout pressure and propose solutions that balance accuracy, runtime, and methodology constraints.
- Strong understanding of static timing analysis fundamentals: multi-mode multi-corner (MMMC) analysis, OCV/AOCV, path-based analysis, and closure techniques.
- Proven ability to work effectively with global cross-functional teams and to mentor engineers.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with adjacent tools such as StarRC, RedHawk-SC, Spice/Hspice, or PrimeSim.
- Experience deploying signoff workflows on leading-edge process nodes and direct tapeout support for complex designs.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
