Principal Application Engineer

Role Summary

Member of the Memory Interface Validation and Applications team focused on RCD and data buffer products. Provide application engineering, customer support, and lab validation across the product lifecycle from concept to production.

Experience Level

Senior — 10+ years of post-silicon applications, debug, and validation experience expected.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include product lifecycle support, customer engagement, and lab-based validation and debugging.

• Support product development lifecycle from conception through production release, coordinating with Design, Test, QA, and other teams.
• Gather and analyze application requirements and challenges from customer environments.
• Maintain and expand detailed knowledge of Renesas memory interface products.
• Work directly with customers to resolve issues and optimize product performance.
• Write application notes, technical documentation, and internal guidance.
• Contribute to new product specifications to ensure competitiveness in the field.
• Design and debug hardware and software for lab validation and qualification.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain experience:

• 10+ years of post-silicon applications, debug, and validation experience.
• Strong knowledge of DDR3/DDR4/DDR5 and/or SERDES protocols, testing, and application.
• Familiarity with computer system architecture, especially Intel x86 server systems.
• Proficient with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, pattern generators, ATE, and logic analyzers.
• Experience developing test automation using Python.
• Experience in high-speed test board design, analysis, and debug.

Nice-to-have:

• Familiarity with DIMM RCD, Data Buffer, and I2C/I3C devices.
• Strong technical writing skills.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with 10+ years of relevant experience; or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with 15+ years of relevant experience.
