Job Title
Principal Analog IC Design Engineer, High-Speed SerDes
Role Summary
The Principal Analog IC Designer will design and develop analog/mixed-signal integrated-circuit blocks for high-speed SerDes from concept and specification through verification and validation.
Work within an analog/mixed-signal SerDes team, collaborating with layout, physical verification, test engineers and customers to deliver high-speed I/O solutions.
Experience Level
Senior; requires a minimum of 7 years of experience in CMOS SerDes or high-speed I/O IC design and development.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, verification, and support of high-speed SerDes analog/mixed-signal blocks.
- Define circuit specifications and architecture for SerDes analog/mixed-signal blocks.
- Design and simulate circuit blocks including drivers, receivers, serializers/deserializers, phase interpolators, PLLs, clock distribution, ADC/DAC, bias and bandgap, and voltage regulators.
- Perform jitter analysis, design signal equalization, and verify timing and signal integrity.
- Use CAD tools for circuit simulation, layout review, and physical verification sign-off.
- Support lab bring-up, silicon validation, and prototype debug.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (layout, verification, test, systems, customers).
- Mentor junior engineers and lead design reviews.
Requirements
Key technical and professional requirements.
- Minimum 7 years of CMOS SerDes or high-speed I/O IC design experience.
- Thorough understanding of jitter and signal equalization techniques.
- Proven design experience in most of the following circuit blocks: driver, receiver, serializer, deserializer, phase interpolator, low-jitter PLL, high-speed clock distribution, ADC/DAC, bias and bandgap, and voltage regulators.
- Proficiency with CAD tools for circuit simulation, layout, and physical verification.
- Strong problem solving, analog aptitude, and effective communication skills; ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with Cadence tools and lab test/characterization.
- Design experience at >10 Gbps and in process nodes smaller than 28 nm.
- Working knowledge of common SerDes standards and their electrical requirements.
Education Requirements
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
