PrimeTime Applications Engineer

Role Summary

Provide technical support and drive adoption of the Synopsys PrimeTime Static Timing Analysis (STA) tool across customer engagements, from pre-sales evaluations to tape-out support.

Work closely with customers, R&D, sales, and marketing to resolve complex timing issues, deliver training, and feed product improvements.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typically 3–5 years of relevant industry experience; see Education Requirements for degree and experience combinations.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include customer support, training, and collaboration to ensure successful use of PrimeTime.

• Support PrimeTime in pre-sale and post-sale engagements, including benchmarking and evaluations.
• Deliver customer training, technical presentations, and hands-on workshops.
• Provide tape-out support and troubleshoot complex static timing problems.
• Drive product adoption by articulating tool advantages and recommended flows to design teams.
• Collaborate with R&D, sales, and marketing to relay customer feedback and influence product enhancements.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, best practices, and knowledge-base resources.
• Participate in advanced customer collaboration initiatives to improve flows and tool capabilities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes for success in this role.

• Deep hands-on expertise with Synopsys PrimeTime STA features and workflows.
• Strong understanding of timing corners, process variation effects, and signal-integrity impacts on timing.
• Familiarity with synthesis, physical design, extraction, and ECO methodologies.
• Proficiency in TCL scripting for automation and tool customization.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; able to present complex technical content to varied audiences.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot under tape-out schedules and to produce repeatable solutions and playbooks.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience in customer-facing roles (support, applications engineering, or consulting).
• Prior experience with competitive STA tools and benchmarking workflows.

Education Requirements

BSEE (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering) or equivalent plus 5+ years of relevant experience, OR MSEE (Master of Science in Electrical Engineering) or equivalent plus 3–4 years of relevant experience. Equivalent practical experience in lieu of degree is acceptable as stated.
