Job Title

Pre-Si Power and Performance System Validation Engineer

Role Summary

Member of the Data Center Group's PTP PreSi Correlation Solutions team responsible for SoC-level power, thermal, and performance validation and optimization. The role develops validation methodologies, builds/maintains validation infrastructure, performs system-level debug, and collaborates with architecture, design, firmware, and software teams to meet performance and power KPIs.

Experience Level

Mid-level - typically requires 3+ years of relevant experience in SoC power/performance validation and Pre-Si simulation/emulation.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include planning, executing, and improving validation and optimization activities at the SoC/system level.

  • Develop and execute SoC-level power, thermal, and performance validation and optimization plans.
  • Collaborate with architecture, design, firmware, and software teams to meet power/thermal/performance targets.
  • Define and run methodologies to validate hardware/software optimizations and KPI alignment.
  • Perform SoC-level debug to identify root causes of functional, power, thermal, and performance failures.
  • Configure and use data loggers and other tools to collect and analyze thermal and performance data.
  • Build and maintain validation infrastructure: performance monitors, behavioral checkers, and test environments.
  • Produce validation reports and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
  • Drive continuous improvements in validation strategies and processes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for initial consideration are listed below. Preferred skills are noted separately.

  • 3+ years experience in SoC power and performance validation.
  • 3+ years experience with Pre-Si simulation and emulation platforms.
  • 3+ years experience developing or optimizing power/performance KPIs.
  • 2+ years debugging SoC-level power, thermal, and performance failures.
  • 2+ years experience with Python for automation and data analysis.
  • Experience in silicon verification, test program development, and test plan execution.

Nice-to-have:

  • RTL familiarity, FPGA fast prototyping, or in-circuit emulation experience.
  • SoC-level debug experience with JTAG debuggers and system board debugging.
  • Knowledge of DSP, Ethernet, 3G/4G/5G, MIPI MPHY, DDR, PCIe/USB/SPMI protocols.
  • Experience with emulation/FPGAs, virtual platforms, performance modeling, and benchmarking.
  • Familiarity with validation tools (data loggers, behavioral checkers, coverage techniques) and lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer).
  • Experience with AI accelerator subsystems (GFX, NPU) and system-level power management.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field is required. A master's degree is preferred.
