Job Title

Post-silicon Validation and Debug Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Client Computing Group to perform post-silicon validation and debug of CPU/SOC products for laptops, desktops and gaming systems. Work with cross-functional teams (design, firmware, software, manufacturing) to verify functionality, power/thermal behavior, and system reliability in lab bring-up and validation environments.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” candidates typically meet the experience guidance in the posting (see Education Requirements). The role expects demonstrated post-silicon or pre-silicon validation experience and hands-on debugging skills.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include planning and executing validation activities, diagnosing complex issues, and improving validation processes.

  • Develop and execute post-silicon validation plans for CPU/SOC functionality, power and thermal management across multiple silicon platforms.
  • Design, implement, and debug validation tests and methodologies for lab and post-silicon environments.
  • Analyze and debug CPU/SOC and system-level issues using advanced tools and methodologies.
  • Lead debug task forces to root-cause and resolve issues affecting program milestones.
  • Drive validation automation, increase coverage, and improve execution efficiency.
  • Collaborate with design, firmware, software, and manufacturing teams to integrate fixes and deliver products.
  • Mentor and develop junior validation engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills. Preferred items listed separately.

  • Hands-on experience in post-silicon validation, pre-silicon verification, or design (practical experience in CPU, SoC, or chipset domains).
  • Experience with SoC and CPU architecture, microarchitecture, and power management flows.
  • Proficiency in scripting and programming (examples: Python, C/C++, Perl) to develop validation tools and frameworks.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills; experience diagnosing system-level failures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to prioritize multiple projects and work independently.
  • Experience leading debug/triage efforts and coordinating cross-functional resolution.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Graphics, Media, or Display IPs and related power management.
  • Familiarity with power and performance testing methodologies and silicon bring-up flows.
  • Knowledge of firmware and software interaction with hardware.
  • Experience with silicon validation tools and lab equipment (e.g., logic analyzers, oscilloscopes).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree with 6+ months of relevant experience. Candidates with advanced degrees and 5+ years' experience are encouraged to apply. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
