Job Title
Physical IC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Member of the ASIC Products Division responsible for physical IC design tasks from RTL to silicon tape-out for PCIe Switch and Enterprise Storage products. The role focuses on timing closure, place-and-route, physical verification, power integrity (EM/IR), and methodology development.
This position is on-site in San Jose and supports high-performance datacenter and AI/ML systems.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Minimum 12+ years of relevant ASIC physical-design experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include executing the full physical-design flow and collaborating with RTL designers to achieve tape-out-ready silicon.
- Execute physical design flow: RTL synthesis, place-and-route, timing closure, and physical verification.
- Set up and synthesize RTL and iterate for timing and power goals.
- Perform timing-closure strategies and sign-off timing verification.
- Conduct EM/IR (power integrity) analysis and address reliability issues.
- Implement clock tree synthesis and manage clock network closure.
- Floor-planning, layout guidance, and DFT/antenna considerations for tape-out.
- Develop and improve physical-design flows and automation/methodology.
- Collaborate with IC design RTL engineers, ECO teams, and verification teams.
- Work on-site at the San Jose facility; remote work is not permitted.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- Proficient in TCL and Perl scripting for flow automation.
- Strong experience with commercial EDA tools for synthesis, P&R, timing analysis, and physical verification.
- Demonstrated experience across the full physical-design cycle from RTL to tape-out.
- Proven timing-closure expertise and familiarity with timing analysis methodologies.
- Experience with EM/IR analysis and mitigation techniques.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree required in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering. The role also specifies 12+ years of relevant industry experience.
