Job Title
Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join a semiconductor physical-design team responsible for implementing ASICs that power cloud infrastructure. The role focuses on backend physical implementation from RTL to GDS, collaborating with architects, RTL designers, and verification teams to deliver silicon under tight area, power, and performance constraints.
Experience Level
Mid-level.
Responsibilities
The engineer will own backend physical-design tasks and contribute to EDA flow development and signoff methodologies.
- Execute full physical design flow (RTL-to-GDS): floorplanning, synthesis, CTS, place-and-route, timing closure, power and noise analysis, and physical verification.
- Define and refine timing constraints and participate in design-backend convergence.
- Take end-to-end responsibility for physical implementation of macros and cluster-level blocks under area, power, and performance targets.
- Perform static timing analysis, signoff timing activities, and equivalence checks.
- Develop and maintain implementation and signoff methodologies and scripts across EDA tools.
- Collaborate with architecture, RTL, and verification teams to resolve implementation issues and meet project schedules.
- Integrate and validate flows with EDA toolchains and multiple vendors.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience for immediate contribution.
- Deep understanding of the complete physical-design flow ("RTL to GDS") and backend implementation steps.
- Proven knowledge of signoff activities, especially timing closure and physical verification.
- Experience with advanced process nodes and implementation/E D A tools.
- Process- and technology-oriented mindset with attention to power, area, and performance trade-offs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead design tasks and mentor junior engineers.
Nice-to-have:
- Full-chip implementation experience including floorplanning, layout, and chip-level timing.
- Experience with high-speed interfaces, multi-voltage (low-power) designs, and complex power-management schemes.
- Familiarity with major EDA vendors and tool flows (e.g., Synopsys, Cadence).
Education Requirements
Not specified.
