PDK Enablement Engineer

Role Summary

Work with CAD teams, EDA tool vendors, and foundries to develop, validate, and maintain process design kits (PDKs) that enable reliable ASIC design flows. The role focuses on PDK health, interoperability with EDA flows, and production-readiness activities.

The engineer will coordinate cross-functional teams to integrate IP, evaluate custom flows, support standard-cell characterization, and drive improvements in PDK usability and performance.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early Career - approximately 2 years of relevant experience is expected.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include supporting PDK development, validation, and design-team enablement.

  • Collaborate with CAD teams, EDA tool vendors, and foundries to ensure PDK compatibility and performance.
  • Develop and maintain PDK documentation and recommended design practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve PDK-related issues in design flows and tool integrations.
  • Conduct training sessions for design teams on PDK usage and updates.
  • Evaluate custom design flows and perform PDK health assessments.
  • Participate in standard-cell characterization and digital flow evaluations after environment setup.
  • Manage IP procurement and integrate IP into the PDK kit.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams and resources to meet project milestones.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance PDK features and usability.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for the position.

  • Hands-on experience with EDA tools and design flows, including PDK management and validation.
  • Proficient scripting skills (Python, Perl, Shell) for automation and flow integration.
  • Experience with parasitic extraction, physical verification, circuit simulation, and reliability verification.
  • Experience working with advanced foundry nodes (FinFET and gate-all-around architectures).
  • Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes and design rules.
  • Project management experience and ability to lead cross-functional technical teams.
  • Experience integrating third-party IP into PDKs and validating IP within flows.

Education Requirements

Employer will accept a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
