Job Title

Optoelectronic Test Development Engineer

Role Summary

Design and integrate test hardware and metrology algorithms for semiconductor photonic devices intended for mass production in Apple products. Work within the Camera Semiconductor Technologies group and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and external suppliers to deliver validated, production-ready test solutions.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Preferred: 3+ years of relevant experience working with semiconductor optoelectronic test systems; minimum experience expected in electro-optical test and supplier management.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities include developing calibration and test methodology, creating test algorithms, and partnering with suppliers and internal teams to deploy validated test equipment.

  • Develop calibration and metrology methodologies for semiconductor photonic devices.
  • Develop and validate algorithms for test metrology deployed on mass-production test stations.
  • Collaborate with tester hardware suppliers to develop and validate test solutions.
  • Perform failure analysis to identify root causes of tester malfunction or measurement inaccuracy.
  • Produce written tool specifications, test plans, and failure analysis documentation.
  • Work closely with characterization labs and cross-functional teams (process, optical, mechanical, electrical).
  • Integrate test hardware and software during engineering and ramp to production.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience.

  • Experience working in semiconductor electro-optical test or a closely related field.
  • Experience managing external suppliers to deliver hardware solutions.
  • Experience developing and integrating test algorithms with hardware platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation and bench components (e.g., SMUs, spectrometers, colorimeters, metrology cameras, lenses).
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and characterization labs.
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills for tool specs and failure analysis.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar scientific computing languages.
  • Knowledge of computer vision or image processing techniques.
  • Experience with lasers, image sensors, displays, LEDs, or wafer fab environments.
  • Experience working with international teams and leading global suppliers.

Education Requirements

BS degree is required. MS or PhD is preferred. The posting does not specify required fields of study or an explicit "equivalent experience" allowance.
