Job Title
Optical Component Link Simulation Student Worker
Role Summary
Internship role on the IOTS Pathfinding team supporting readiness and scalability for next-generation high-speed I/O technologies (PCIe, UPI, CXL, USB). The role focuses on simulation and laboratory validation of electro-optical links and components to inform future server platform designs.
Work will be performed from Guadalajara under a hybrid model; the intern will develop simulation workflows, run parameter sweeps, perform bench measurements, and document technical results for team review.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). Targeted at students early in their degree program; candidates should have some prior Electrical Engineering experience (recommended 3+ months) and be motivated to learn optical and I/O systems.
Responsibilities
Primary technical and team responsibilities include:
- Develop and automate simulation workflows for electro-optical links, including modulators and photodetectors.
- Benchmark link parameters (insertion loss, bandwidth, dispersion, crosstalk) via parameter sweeps and comparative simulations.
- Perform laboratory bench measurements with test equipment to validate and correlate simulation models.
- Analyze and document differences between electrical and electro-optical link performance and provide comparative technical insights.
- Prepare and maintain deliverables: simulation scripts, parameter-sweep data, measurement procedures, lab results, and technical reports.
- Synthesize findings into recommendations for electro-optical component architectures and contributions to next-generation I/O specifications.
- Collaborate with team members and present analysis and results in technical forums and reports.
Requirements
Minimum and preferred qualifications relevant to initial consideration and success in the role.
-
Must-have: 3+ months experience in Electrical Engineering (digital and analog electronics).
-
Must-have: Advanced English proficiency; resume in English required for application.
-
Must-have: Unrestricted, permanent right to work in Mexico (no visa sponsorship available).
-
Nice-to-have: Familiarity with electro-optical components and link concepts (modulators, photodetectors, insertion loss, bandwidth, dispersion, crosstalk).
-
Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum/signal analyzers, power supplies, probes, multimeters) and bench measurement procedures.
-
Nice-to-have: Programming or scripting skills (Python preferred, C++ acceptable) for workflow automation and data processing.
-
Nice-to-have: Ability to read and interpret electronic/optical component datasheets and communicate results in technical reports and presentations.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience in link-level analysis/benchmarking and data-driven comparison of electrical vs electro-optical links.
Education Requirements
Pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field; at least one year remaining before graduation. The posting also notes that required skills may be obtained through a combination of coursework, internships, research, or relevant industry experience (equivalent practical experience may be considered).
