Role Summary
Asia-based engineering role responsible for on-site technical liaison with optical component vendors to support integration, qualification, and manufacturing readiness of optical components and sub-assemblies for data-center interconnect products.
The role coordinates vendor development, resolves integration and yield issues, tracks build plans and schedules, and communicates status and risks to internal engineering teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level. No specific years-of-experience stated.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Serve as the Asia-based on-site technical interface for optical component vendors during development, NPI, and production ramp.
- Act as the primary day-to-day contact with external vendors to coordinate component development, fabrication, assembly, and deliveries.
- Provide hands-on vendor support to identify, track, and help resolve integration, manufacturing, and yield issues with internal teams.
- Define, execute, and track component development and build plans, including samples, data delivery, corrective actions, and schedules.
- Review and validate vendor process flows, inspection data, and test results for completeness and compliance with requirements.
- Track component build status, risks, and issues; provide concise, outcome-focused updates to stakeholders.
- Support component qualification and change-control activities, including process changes, deviations, and rework coordination.
- Escalate technical or schedule risks promptly with clear problem statements and recommended next steps.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and skills:
- Prior experience in optical component suppliers, field applications (FAE), NPI, or manufacturing engineering roles.
- Experience supporting process qualification, pilot builds, or production ramps of optical components and sub-assemblies.
- Working-level understanding of optical components and assemblies (fibers, lenses, FAUs, optical submodules, laser modules) and related manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with optical performance metrics such as insertion loss, alignment tolerance, and yield trends.
- Experience working directly with external vendors or contract manufacturers, preferably in Asia, and across time zones with U.S.-based engineering teams.
- Ability to interpret optical drawings, specifications, and basic performance data and to identify inconsistencies or risks.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, vendor-friendly working style.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with photonic interconnect programs or high-volume optical transceiver programs.
- Hands-on manufacturing or test-lab experience supporting optical NPI.
