Job Title
Optical Architect - AI Accelerators
Role Summary
The Optical Architect will design optical architectures and sub-systems for wearable glasses and transparent display systems. The role focuses on defining optics, developing test/characterization/metrology/data solutions, and guiding productization of optical technologies for next-generation wearable devices.
This position works with cross-functional teams (hardware, software, manufacturing, vendors) to influence product roadmaps and drive optical system integration from concept through production.
Experience Level
Senior — 8+ years of relevant experience in optical systems engineering or related fields.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include leading optical architecture and engineering efforts and delivering testable, manufacturable optical subsystems for wearable displays.
- Lead cross-functional teams in the design, development, and implementation of optical solutions and new optics architectures.
- Identify, incubate, and productize optical technologies for wearable optics.
- Specify key performance metrics, test methods, and test requirements for optical components and systems.
- Develop and maintain technical roadmaps for optical systems.
- Interface with stakeholders and leadership to influence product roadmaps and architecture decisions.
- Develop and implement test, characterization, metrology, and data solutions to support transparent display systems.
- Manage budgets, resources, and collaborations with global vendors.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor activity relevant to wearable optics.
Requirements
Core qualifications and technical skills required for the role.
Must-have:
- Proven experience in optical systems engineering and related technical fields.
- Experience in the wearables industry or equivalent experience with human-vision, optical design, coatings, and manufacturing processes for display systems.
- Practical experience specifying performance metrics and test requirements for optical components/systems.
- Experience developing test, characterization, metrology, and data-driven verification methods for optical displays.
- Experience collaborating and communicating effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Experience with Design of Experiments and statistical analysis using JMP, MATLAB, or similar tools.
Nice-to-have:
- In-depth knowledge of end-to-end optical system design for display systems (electron to photon to eye).
- Experience in architecture, systems engineering, or product development for augmented reality optical/display systems.
- Experience operating in fast-moving or ambiguous environments, including early-stage product development.
- Experience incorporating AI/ML or computational methods into engineering design workflows.
- Proven track record of influencing technical architecture decisions across organizations.
Education Requirements
