Metrology Application Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for developing and optimizing metrology recipes and detection methods to improve yield, quality and productivity in semiconductor manufacturing. The role works with process integration (PI), process and equipment engineers, and technology development teams to launch, transfer and enhance metrology for product reliability and cost-effective production.

Position is based at Micron Hiroshima Fab 15 (onsite) and includes hands-on recipe development, production support and cross-functional collaboration.

Experience Level

Entry-level. No prior metrology experience required; on-the-job training and formal training are provided to develop required skills.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include developing, implementing and maintaining metrology capabilities that detect defects and support yield and quality improvements.

  • Create, modify and optimize metrology recipes; validate recipe health and performance.
  • Develop and improve detection methods for quality, yield and process control.
  • Support technology transfers from TD and participate in launches for all product items.
  • Collaborate with PI, process, equipment and technology development teams to meet product and roadmap requirements.
  • Drive yield improvement, cost reduction, productivity improvement and risk management activities.
  • Investigate and resolve manufacturing line defects and abnormalities.
  • Report task progress accurately and on time to stakeholders and team members.

  • Understanding of quality control principles and ability to establish proactive quality improvements.
  • Ability to set, measure and achieve short- and long-term goals.
  • Willingness to be stationed at Fab 15 (Hiroshima) and remain onsite as required.

Nice-to-have:

  • Semiconductor manufacturing knowledge.
  • Metrology-specific knowledge or prior exposure to metrology tools and methods.
  • Familiarity with Micron practices such as transfers and best-known-methods (BKM).
  • Understanding of memory (DRAM) manufacturing step sequences and traveler flow.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with subject-matter experts via email, chat, conference calls and face-to-face.

Education Requirements

Requires knowledge equivalent to a Bachelor's degree. Master's-level knowledge is preferred. The posting allows entry without prior experience and implies equivalent practical experience may be acceptable; no specific fields of study or certifications were mandated.
