Role Summary
The Memory Layout Engineer will join Qualcomm's memory design team focusing on the physical implementation of memory IPs such as SRAM, ROM, and custom memory architectures. The role involves collaborating with circuit designers and optimizing layout designs for performance and yield.
Experience Level
Mid-level with a minimum of 2 years of experience in custom layout design, preferably in memory IP.
Responsibilities
The Memory Layout Engineer will be responsible for:
- Developing transistor-level layouts for memory bitcells, sense amplifiers, and peripheral circuits.
- Collaborating closely with circuit designers to optimize layout for performance, area, and yield.
- Providing layout guidance and consulting to memory designers.
- Driving layout tasks from specification to tape-out with minimal supervision.
- Supporting memory compiler development and array-level layout integration.
- Performing layout verification and debugging using industry-standard tools.
- Staying updated on process technology changes and incorporating best practices into layout design.
- Working with cross-functional teams including design, verification, and mask preparation.
Requirements
The following qualifications are required for this position:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in custom layout design, preferably in memory IP.
- Proficiency in layout tools such as Cadence Virtuoso or Synopsys Custom Compiler.
- Solid understanding of CMOS device physics and memory architecture.
- Familiarity with advanced process nodes (5nm, 3nm, and below).
- Experience working closely with memory designers.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of design tasks.
- Strong self-learning ability in mastering new technologies.
- Scripting skills in TCL or Python are a strong plus.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Education Requirements
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field is expected; PhD holders are also considered.
