Job Title

Mechanical Engineer

Role Summary

Design mechanical hardware and fixtures that support semiconductor product characterization and test across wafer-probe, automated test equipment (ATE), chipset integration platforms, and system-level test platforms. The role is on the QCT Product & Test Engineering (PTE) team and requires collaboration with global engineering teams to ensure designs meet test-platform requirements.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Level - Entry or Early Career). Preferred: 1+ years of relevant mechanical design experience.

Responsibilities

The position focuses on mechanical design, documentation, analysis, and cross-functional coordination to enable semiconductor test and development.

  • Develop 3D CAD models and detailed drawings for mechanical fixtures, test hardware, and IC package interfaces.
  • Capture design intent and reconcile package and fixture designs with target test platforms to ensure usability.
  • Perform computational analysis using CAE tools (thermal, structural, airflow) to validate designs.
  • Generate engineering change orders (ECOs) and maintain product lifecycle documentation.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analyses and apply GD&T to ensure manufacturability and assembly fit.
  • Collaborate with engineering leads and cross-functional teams to capture requirements and resolve design issues.

Requirements

Must-have and desirable technical skills and experience. Degree requirements are listed separately under Education Requirements.

  • Must-have: Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and assembly workflows (experience with Creo Parametric strongly preferred).
  • Must-have: Practical mechanical design experience, part fabrication knowledge, and application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2009.
  • Must-have: Experience performing tolerance stack-up analysis on complex assemblies.
  • Must-have: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of semiconductor test cell technology and associated hardware design.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with ANSYS (Mechanical, Icepak) or similar CAE simulation tools.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Agile PLM/product lifecycle tools and experience with IC socket design.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical field.
