Manufacturing Operation Manager
Role Summary
Lead a team of technicians and engineers responsible for sustaining, troubleshooting, repairing, qualifying, and optimizing assembly and test manufacturing equipment to support high-volume semiconductor production in Intel's Penang facility.
Drive equipment availability, process stability, safety, quality containment, and continuous improvement to meet production ramps and factory performance targets.
Experience Level
Senior — position expects experienced candidates. Minimums in the posting: at least 3+ years in manufacturing operations or equipment engineering and at least 2 years of people management; a Master’s degree may reduce required experience to 2+ years.
Responsibilities
Accountable for equipment performance, production support, and people leadership.
- Own, sustain, troubleshoot, repair, qualify, and optimize assembly and test manufacturing equipment to meet uptime, yield, quality, and productivity targets.
- Perform root-cause analysis, failure analysis, SPC, FMEA, preventive maintenance planning, and implement continuous improvement actions.
- Lead quality containment, defect verification, excursion response, lot/hardware containment, disposition support, and corrective actions.
- Manage, coach, and develop a team of technicians and engineers; establish training and certification plans to support production ramps.
- Supervise shift schedules, workstation assignments, rotations, and PTO to ensure coverage and production continuity.
- Act as first responder for operational, safety, and security issues within assigned toolsets or areas.
- Develop and execute tactical plans to streamline workflows and improve coordination across groups and divisions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and global engineering teams for equipment installation, qualification, technology transfer, and factory health issues.
Requirements
Core technical and leadership qualifications required for the role.
- 3+ years hands-on equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and sustainment in a manufacturing environment.
- 2+ years of people management, supervision, or team leadership experience (coaching, performance management, workforce planning).
- Experience with manufacturing quality systems: defect verification, excursion management, containment, and CAPA.
- Hands-on experience with equipment monitoring, process control, equipment qualification, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement activities.
- Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and root-cause methods (8D, 5-Why, FMEA); knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and operational safety standards.
- Proven technical problem-solving skills resolving equipment, process, and production issues in high-volume manufacturing.
Nice-to-have:
- Semiconductor assembly and/or test manufacturing experience, including support for production ramps and technology transfer.
- Experience leading equipment performance improvement and reliability enhancement initiatives.
- Lean Six Sigma certification or equivalent process-improvement credentials.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Sciences, or related technical discipline (with 3+ years relevant experience); OR a Master’s degree in a related field with 2+ years relevant experience. Preferred: Master’s degree (MBA or technical) and/or Lean Six Sigma certification.
