Lead Designer, IC Layout

Role Summary

The Lead IC Layout Designer is primarily responsible for creating top-level layouts. This role involves collaboration with schematic designers, block layout resources, section leads, project managers, and assembly engineers to meet scheduling, design, and quality requirements set by project stakeholders.

As the top layout lead, the designer manages deliverables of layout resources, oversees the tapeout process to the foundry, and creates bonding diagrams for targeted packages. The position also includes mentoring new hires or interns and participating in other layout development initiatives.

Experience Level

Senior; at least 6 years of relevant working experience is required.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the Lead Designer, IC Layout include:

  • Create top-level layouts.
  • Collaborate with various teams including schematic designers and project managers.
  • Manage layout resources and deliverables.
  • Execute the tapeout process with the foundry.
  • Mentor new hires and interns.
  • Ensure quality standards are met for design.

Requirements

The following qualifications are essential:

  • Extensive experience in top/chip level layout.
  • Familiarity with various tapeout procedures and package selection.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics, layout principles, and IC reliability.
  • Proficiency in Cadence Virtuoso XL and Calibre verification tools is an advantage.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a global team.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Experience with LDO, DC-DC converters, or similar is a plus.
  • Experience with technology nodes like 0.18um, 40nm, 90nm is a plus.

Education Requirements

BS in Electronics or Electrical Engineering is required.
