Job Title
Lab Analog Design Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Investigate and resolve complex analog and mixed-signal issues through simulation, lab validation, schematic and layout analysis. Work within a debug team that partners with analog design, physical design, validation, and lab engineering to deliver validated fixes and high-quality documentation.
Customer-facing role that requires clear technical communication and the ability to translate findings into actionable design and layout recommendations.
Experience Level
Senior — ideally 6+ years of relevant professional experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include investigation, validation, and communication of fixes for analog and mixed-signal problems.
- Perform structured, data-driven root-cause analysis of analog/mixed-signal issues.
- Run and evaluate simulations to reproduce issues and generate fix hypotheses.
- Execute lab testing and bench validation; correlate lab measurements with simulation results.
- Analyze schematics, layouts, and physical-design collateral to isolate failure mechanisms.
- Develop, validate, and communicate design and layout change recommendations.
- Produce clear, reusable documentation of reproduction steps, analysis, and fixes.
- Engage directly with customers to report status, findings, and mitigations.
- Collaborate across teams to reduce repeat issues and improve debug processes.
Requirements
Required skills and experience for success in this role.
Must-have
- Strong analog design background with proven end-to-end debugging capability.
- Experience running simulations, evaluating results, and validating fixes.
- Knowledge of physical design and layout fundamentals, including layout-dependent effects (LDE).
- Advanced analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication; experience with customer-facing technical communication.
- Ability to collaborate with design, physical design, lab, and validation teams.
Nice-to-have
- Experience with lab equipment and bench validation techniques.
- Proficiency in MATLAB for data analysis, modeling, or automation of workflows.
- Exposure to automation/scripting to improve debug and reporting efficiency.
