Jr. Product Engineer
SemtechJob Title
Jr. Product Engineer
Role Summary
Join the New Product Introduction (NPI) Product Engineering team to support new product development from concept through production transfer. Work with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to define DfT/DfM requirements, execute characterization and ATE-to-bench correlation, and support yield and quality optimization for high-performance optical and analog/mixed-signal ICs in CMOS/BiCMOS processes.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Level - Entry or Early Career). The role typically requires about 2+ years of relevant experience; internship or co-op experience is considered.
Responsibilities
Primary duties supporting NPI programs, characterization, test development, and manufacturing transfer.
- Support NPI activities from product concept through final product release and transfer to full-volume manufacturing; assist with production release deliverables and milestone tracking.
- Collaborate with Project Lead, Design, Test Engineering, Characterization, Validation, Quality & Reliability, Applications Engineering, Marketing and Operations under senior engineer direction.
- Support definition and verification of Design for Testability (DfT) and Design for Manufacturability (DfM) requirements; assist in ATE test program implementation and optimization.
- Develop and execute wafer-level and bench characterization plans; perform ATE-to-bench correlation and analyze results across process, voltage, and temperature variations.
- Assist yield modeling, Design of Experiments (DOE), test-time reduction, and test-limit setting with statistical validation.
- Support failure analysis, root cause investigations, CAPA activities, and collaborate with foundry/packaging teams to resolve manufacturing issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience; a number of items below are listed as beneficial.
- 2+ years of experience in semiconductor product engineering, test engineering, or design engineering; internship or co-op experience considered.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis and data tools (e.g. Excel, JMP) for data interpretation and reporting.
- Foundational knowledge of semiconductor physics and analog/mixed-signal IC design principles.
- Exposure to DFM, DFT, and ATE test methodologies; familiarity with high-speed ATE platforms (Advantest, Teradyne) or bench test equipment is a plus.
- Basic awareness of semiconductor qualification and reliability testing (JEDEC, HTOL, ESD, Latch-up) is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills and an eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment.
Education Requirements
BS in Electrical Engineering or a related field required. MS is a plus. Internship or co-op experience in relevant fields is considered; no other specific certifications were listed.
