Job Title
IP Enabling Engineer
Role Summary
Work in the Hard IP Development Group (HIPD) within Central Engineering to validate, characterize, and enable IO and mixed-signal IP across pre-silicon and post-silicon phases. The role interfaces directly with IP design teams and SOC customers to resolve IP-related issues on test chips and products.
Experience Level
Mid-level β minimum 3+ years of experience in electrical or functional post-silicon validation and debug with serial or parallel IOs.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include IP validation, debug, and customer enablement across pre-silicon to post-silicon activities.
- Collaborate with SOC customers and IP design teams to develop test plans, generate test content, and perform IP characterizations.
- Develop and run scripts/automation (Python, SystemVerilog) and leverage AI-driven tools for test content generation where applicable.
- Perform signal and power integrity simulations, review SOC board designs, and recommend board-level changes.
- Provide hands-on IP enabling and debug support during SOC power-ons for test chips and products.
- Identify, investigate, debug, and disposition silicon issues and customer-reported sightings in a timely manner.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list of expectations.
- 3+ years of post-silicon validation and debug experience with serial IOs (PCIe, USB, SATA, Type-C, Ethernet) or parallel IOs (DDR, LPDDR, UCIe Die2Die).
- Proficient with lab hardware and software: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and BERTs.
- Familiarity with industry IO specifications (DDR, LPDDR, PCIe, USB, USB Type-C, Die2Die, Ethernet); PHY or controller experience is acceptable.
- Experience representing IP during SOC integration and providing practical, hands-on debug support.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills for silicon issues.
- Nice-to-have: signal integrity and power delivery understanding; pre-silicon simulation or mixed-signal validation experience; firmware or MRC exposure.
Education Requirements
Must have a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
