IC Verification Engineer

Role Summary

The IC Verification Engineer will design and execute verification plans for blocks/cores and SoCs, build scalable testbenches, develop randomized tests, and close functional coverage gaps. The role sits on an IP/SoC verification team responsible for ensuring functional correctness before silicon tapeout.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience expectation: multiple years of IC verification experience (see Education Requirements for degree-related guidance).

Responsibilities

Key day-to-day responsibilities include:

• Create test plans covering all features for Block/Core/SoC and define functional coverage goals.
• Write scalable, reusable testbenches using the chosen verification methodology framework.
• Develop pseudo-random tests to exercise functional scenarios and achieve coverage closure.
• Run regressions, debug failures, analyze coverage gaps, and improve tests to close gaps.
• Document verification strategy, including test plans, testbench architecture, and test descriptions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• Working knowledge of SystemVerilog and verification methodologies (UVM or VMM).
• Strong command of object-oriented programming principles applied to verification.
• Experience writing functional coverage and pseudo-random tests.
• Experience debugging regression failures and analyzing/improving coverage gaps.
• Ability to write scalable, reusable testbenches aligned with verification methodology frameworks.

Nice-to-have:

• Familiarity with PCI Express protocol.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field with 5+ years of relevant IC verification experience, or a Master's degree in electrical engineering or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience. No certifications were specified. Related technical degrees were acceptable per the posting.
