HSIO Characterization Engineer, Senior Lead — Job Description

Job Title

HSIO Characterization Engineer, Senior Lead

Role Summary

Work in the HSIO Post-Silicon Engineering group to perform bench characterization and failure analysis of LPDDR/PCDDR memory subsystems and high-speed IO interfaces. The role supports validation of DRAM, DRAM controllers, PHYs, IOs, clocking and related analog/digital circuits for mobile and PC platforms.

You will collaborate with IC design, system engineering, and hardware applications teams to evaluate parametric performance and root-cause design problems under time-sensitive schedules.

Experience Level

Level: Senior. Typical experience guidance from the posting: bachelor +3 years, master +2 years, or PhD +1 year; other qualifications mention ~5 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on bench validation, characterization and analysis of memory and high-speed IO IPs.

  • Perform bench characterization of LPDDR and PCDDR subsystem components (DRAM, controller, PHY, IOs, PLL/DLL, clocking, delay circuits, PDN).
  • Characterize and evaluate high-speed IO interfaces (PCIe, USB2/3/4, DisplayPort, HDMI, MIPI-CSI/DSI, UFS) for parametric performance and compliance.
  • Execute electrical measurements (eye diagrams, jitter analysis, differential signaling) and transmission-line/signal-integrity assessments.
  • Perform failure analysis and root-cause debugging; provide actionable feedback to design and system teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams globally in time-critical validation cycles.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; optional items labeled as "nice-to-have".

  • Familiarity with test and characterization of DDR and high-speed IO interfaces and PHY-level IPs.
  • In-depth understanding of DDR protocols, timing diagrams, and PHY operation.
  • Experience with electrical parametric compliance: eye diagrams, jitter, receiver tolerance, signal integrity, de-embedding.
  • Good understanding of VLSI technologies, analog/digital ICs, and semiconductor device behavior.
  • Programming skills: Python, C, C# or equivalent for test automation and data analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills; ability to work in fast-paced environments.
  • Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with bench instruments (oscilloscopes, BERT, network/spectrum analyzers, signal generators, logic analyzers).

Education Requirements

Listing from the posting: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related engineering fields (e.g., B.Tech, M.Tech) are acceptable. The posting also allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of a degree (degree + years guidance: BS +3 years, MS +2 years, PhD +1 year).
