Job Title
High Speed Analog Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and validate high-performance analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits for high-speed interfaces and USB applications. Work on circuit design from concept through silicon validation within an IC development team based in the Chandler office.
Collaborate with layout, system, and cross-functional teams to meet product requirements and present technical solutions internally and to customers.
Experience Level
Mid-level — typical candidates: MS in Electrical Engineering with 3–5 years of IC development experience, or PhD with 1–2 years of experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include hands-on circuit design, simulation, modeling, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Design high-performance analog and mixed-signal circuits: high-speed re-drivers (AFE RX equalization, Tx output drivers), high-speed switches for USB, clocking circuits (PLL, frequency multipliers, jitter conditioning), high-speed IOs, precision analog blocks, cap-less LDOs, bandgaps, and charge pumps.
- Perform hands-on circuit design, simulations, and documentation from concept through silicon validation.
- Translate chip-level requirements (data rate, BER, jitter budget) into block-level architectures and sub-block specifications.
- Develop behavioral models (Verilog-A/AMS) for analog blocks to validate architecture performance.
- Perform system-level modeling (MATLAB/Simulink) for noise and transfer-function analysis.
- Conduct design analysis and hand calculations to predict and validate simulation results.
- Lead and participate in design reviews and present technical solutions to internal teams and customers.
- Collaborate with layout engineers to ensure optimal device placement, matching, EM/IR compliance, shielding, and guard-ring implementation.
- Propose differentiated technical solutions to meet customer and product requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Strong expertise in high-speed analog circuit fundamentals: signal integrity, jitter analysis, noise, bandwidth optimization, stability, and frequency compensation techniques.
- Proven experience with high-speed interfaces (SerDes, USB, Ethernet, or similar) and clocking systems (PLL, CDR, frequency synthesis).
- Hands-on experience with Cadence IC design tools (Virtuoso, Spectre) and modeling tools such as MATLAB/Simulink.
- Experience developing behavioral models (Verilog-A/AMS).
- Solid understanding of device physics and parasitic effects impacting high-speed performance.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and effective verbal and written communication; fluency in English.
Education Requirements
MS in Electrical Engineering with 3–5 years of IC development experience, or PhD with 1–2 years of experience. Field: Electrical Engineering or related technical fields.
