Role Summary

Internship on the High-Level Synthesis team developing compiler technologies that translate high-level languages into hardware implementations for FPGAs and SoCs. Work focuses on compiler passes, code transformations, performance and resource optimization, and validation.

Responsibilities

Contribute to development, testing, and documentation of HLS compiler components under mentorship.

• Assist in developing and maintaining HLS compiler infrastructure and codebase.
• Implement and test compiler passes and code transformations to improve hardware synthesis quality.
• Analyze and improve compilation flow from C/C++ to hardware description languages.
• Research compiler techniques relevant to AI and hardware acceleration workloads.
• Integrate and performance-test new features, focusing on resource and runtime trade-offs.
• Debug and validate compiler outputs; create regression tests.
• Document work and contribute to internal knowledge bases.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience; preferred items indicate additional useful background.

• Must-have: Academic or project experience with C/C++ programming.
• Must-have: Familiarity with compiler concepts such as parsing, code generation, and optimization (coursework or projects).
• Must-have: Exposure to digital logic design fundamentals and hardware flows (FPGA/ASIC).
• Ability to debug, write tests, and validate tool outputs.
• Comfort with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Nice-to-have: Experience or coursework with MLIR, LLVM, or Clang.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with HLS tools (e.g., Vivado HLS, Intel HLS) and hardware description languages (Verilog/VHDL).
• Nice-to-have: Prior internship or project experience in compiler development or hardware synthesis.
