High-Level Synthesis Engineer (Intern)

Role Summary

Join the High Level Synthesis (HLS) team to develop compiler and tooling that translate high-level languages into hardware implementations for FPGAs and SoCs. Work on compiler infrastructure, code transformations, and testing to improve performance and resource utilization for AI, cloud, and embedded workloads.

Experience Level

Internship / Entry-level. Student status; no prior professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Contribute to HLS compiler development and verification under mentorship.

• Assist development and maintenance of HLS compiler infrastructure.
• Implement and test compiler passes and code transformations to optimize code for hardware synthesis.
• Analyze and improve compilation flow from C/C++ to hardware description languages.
• Research compiler techniques for AI computation workloads.
• Integrate and test new HLS features focusing on performance and resource optimization.
• Debug and validate compiler outputs.
• Document work and update internal knowledge bases.

Requirements

Must-have technical foundations and practical skills; preferred items listed separately.

• Academic or project experience with C/C++ programming. (must-have)
• Familiarity with compiler concepts such as parsing, code generation, and optimization. (must-have)
• Exposure to digital logic design fundamentals and FPGA/ASIC hardware flows. (must-have)
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git). (must-have)
• Preferred: Coursework or internship experience in compiler development or hardware synthesis.
• Preferred: Familiarity with MLIR, LLVM, or Clang.
• Preferred: Exposure to HLS tools (e.g., Xilinx Vivado HLS, Intel HLS) and basic knowledge of Verilog/VHDL.
• Preferred: Good analytical, communication, and teamwork skills and eagerness to learn HLS compilers.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering. Related technical fields will be considered. Student/intern status required.
