Job Title

Hardware & Silicon Validation Senior Staff Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Custom Cloud Solutions hardware validation team to validate next-generation data-center ASICs and SoCs from first-silicon bring-up through system-level qualification. The role focuses on hands-on lab validation, electrical and protocol characterization, and cross-functional debugging with design, firmware, and systems teams.

Experience Level

Senior-level engineer. Typical background: Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s/PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include post-silicon bring-up, functional and performance characterization, and system qualification in instrumented hardware labs.

  • Develop comprehensive validation plans for SoCs, ASICs, or custom IP blocks.
  • Bring up first silicon: power-on, boot, and subsystem initialization.
  • Execute post-silicon validation: functional testing, performance characterization, stress testing, and reliability runs.
  • Measure and analyze silicon performance across workloads and operating conditions.
  • Validate high-speed SERDES and interconnects; perform system/platform integration and testing.
  • Use oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and on-chip debug tools to identify and root-cause issues.
  • Work with architecture, design, verification, firmware, and systems teams to define coverage, drive fixes, and verify solutions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution; additional desirable skills are listed as nice-to-have.

  • Experience validating CPUs, GPUs, DSPs, SoCs, or custom ASICs in silicon labs.
  • Strong understanding of digital logic, computer architecture, and SoC subsystems.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe and Ethernet.
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers) and board-level debug.
  • Proficiency in scripting for automation (Python, Perl, Shell) and experience with C/C++ for low-level test development.
  • Familiarity with Linux, device drivers, and hardware-software integration.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills; able to work independently in fast-paced hardware cycles.
  • Eligibility to access export-controlled technology as required by U.S. export regulations.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with memory subsystems (DDR, HBM, memory controllers), NVMe/SSD controllers, or storage protocols.
  • Experience with pre-silicon environments (simulation, emulation, FPGA prototyping) and high-speed PAM4/NRZ signaling.
  • Prior work on large-scale data-center or AI accelerator platforms.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field plus 5+ years of relevant experience; OR Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 3+ years of relevant experience.

Reasonable accommodation requests during the selection process can be directed to Marvell HR Helpdesk (TAOps@marvell.com).
