Job Title

Hardware ASIC Design Intern (2027)

Role Summary

12-week full-time internship on NVIDIA's hardware teams focused on ASIC design and verification for digital systems and SoCs. Interns work on measurable engineering projects alongside engineers across design, verification and physical implementation.

Projects may involve RTL design, verification, performance/power analysis, and tool/flow development aimed at delivering silicon-ready blocks.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Intended for current university students or early-career candidates; typical experience 0–3 years.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities during the internship include:

  • Implement and modify RTL (SystemVerilog/Verilog/VHDL) for digital blocks or subsystems.
  • Develop and run testbenches, verification environments, and functional coverage.
  • Perform timing analysis, synthesis checks, and assist with STA and timing closure activities.
  • Analyze performance, power, and area trade-offs; propose optimizations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (verification, physical design, CAD, firmware) to integrate designs.
  • Document design decisions, test results, and implementation details.

Requirements

Key technical skills and expectations. Education requirements are listed separately below.

  • Relevant coursework or hands-on experience with RTL design, digital systems, VLSI concepts, or SoC design.
  • Familiarity with RTL languages and verification tools: SystemVerilog, Verilog, VHDL, UVM recommended.
  • Programming and scripting skills (Python, C/C++, TCL, Perl) and comfort using Linux-based toolchains.
  • Understanding of synthesis, static timing analysis, and basic physical design concepts.
  • Ability to work full-time for the 12-week internship period and communicate results clearly.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with CAD/physical design flows, SRAM design, emulation, or chip instrumentation and measurement.

Education Requirements

Must be actively enrolled and pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field for the full duration of the internship. Anticipated graduation month and year must be indicated on the resume/CV.
