Graduate Power Electronics Test Engineer

Role Summary

The engineer will perform bench-level testing and characterization of high-voltage GaN power devices and test systems, maintain laboratory equipment, assemble and troubleshoot test fixtures, and follow strict safety and compliance procedures. The role is based in the Goleta engineering lab and supports power-electronics validation and test system development.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities focus on safe, accurate testing and upkeep of power-electronics laboratory systems.

  • Adhere to high-voltage laboratory safety protocols and compliance requirements.
  • Execute specialized electronic and power-device characterization tests and record results accurately.
  • Assemble, maintain, and troubleshoot test fixtures and test circuits.
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment such as AC/DC power supplies, oscilloscopes, function generators, and multimeters.
  • Perform routine lab maintenance to keep the environment organized and safe.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on test system development and participate in design reviews as required.
  • Support documentation of test systems and any assigned tasks from supervisors.

Requirements

  • Fundamental knowledge of electronics theory and laboratory testing practices.
  • Proficiency using oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, and other lab test equipment.
  • Skilled in SMT and through-hole soldering and desoldering.

  • Proficiency with PC-based tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong attention to safety, detail, and accurate data recording.
  • Nice-to-have: PCB design and Altium experience, high-voltage/current sensing expertise, MCU programming in C/C++ (PWM, UART, ADC/DAC), and familiarity with FPGA development.
